While we are still facing a significant impact of COVID-19 and making efforts to contain the virus, the homicide of George Floyd and the aftermath of the incident have caused an extra emotional toll on many of us. It is a tragic incident that shakes us all, especially at this already difficult time.
It is an important time to remember Northwest ABA’s mission -achieving better lives for all regardless of disabilities and cultural backgrounds. Our mission extends to promoting equality and justice regardless of one’s appearance, gender, race, sexual orientation, national origin, and socioeconomic status, while acknowledging and respecting differences. We stand to this mission, because we believe that is how we make our world a better place to live.
Northwest ABA opposes to discrimination, racism, supremacy of any individual or group, policies that widen inequality and injustice, or violence (whether by protesters, police, or the government). It is a time to maximize our sympathy and try to understand perspectives of others with different opinions.
As members of the company that aspires to promote diversity and inclusion, we need to be mindful that some of our clients may be facing similar challenges -racism and discrimination- not just recently but every day of their lives. It is a centuries old problem that requires continuous work.
Northwest ABA will continue to be true to its mission, stand by racial minorities, and is committed to taking actions to rectify social injustice.
